Chinese food maker says no melamine in biscuits

A CHINESE FOOD company said on Sunday that no further melamine has been found in its biscuits since some were found to contain the industrial chemical in September and destroyed last month.

Kam Tai Co., Ltd. in Dongguan, southern Guangdong Province, said the company’s current production and sales were normal.

Two batches of 1,500 boxes of biscuits for export were found to contain melamine in September after Hong Kong and Singapore said the company’s “Zhengshufang” biscuits were contaminated, according to Dongguan’s quality and quarantine authorities.

The tainted products were destroyed on December 8.

Ma Feng, a Dongguan Quality and Technical Inspection Bureau official, said the bureau had stepped up inspections of all Kam Tai’s products vob after the country’s tainted milk powder scandal was exposed in September.

No melamine has since been found in the company’s products, Ma said.

The company had been using milk powder produced under a brand based in the northwestern Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. In September, the company began to use an Inner Mongolia-based company’s milk powder, which was found to contain melamine.

Kam Tai recalled all exported products from markets such as Singapore, the Republic of Korea and Japan after they were found to be tainted.

Thousands of fans of the Penguins and other professional sports teams might not get what they pay for in jerseys that have hit the local market, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service warned this week.

About 1,000 bootleg jerseys, shipped illegally from China, were seized this week by a task force of postal inspectors, the federal bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Pennsylvania State Police troopers.

The shipments and sales are a rip-off for consumers and an infringement of the National Hockey League’s right to market the merchandise.

Over the past week, 78 separate parcels containing about 1,000 jerseys were intercepted by the agents.

In a one-month period, agents have seized $250,000 worth of bootleg Penguins jerseys, said Andrew Richards, spokesman for the Postal Inspection Service.

“We want consumers to be aware that they’re knock-offs,” Mr. Richards said. “They don’t last like a genuine article.”

This is the first I’d heard about the limited edition Star Wars x Adidas Super Stars sneakers (do people still say sneakers? Great attention to detail was taken by Adidas for these sneakers. The “Yoda” Super Stars feature a hemp upper much like something the Jedi Master wore on his home planet of Dagobah. In addition to the good choice of colors and materials, Adidas also covered the lace tips in the neon green color of Yoda’s lightsaber. The “Darth Vader” Super Stars takes inspiration from the characters mask. The parallel lines on the side are like that covering Vader’s mouth and the black patent leather to represent the glossy finish. Again Adidas Shoes finished off the kicks with red lace tips to match Vader’s lightsaber.
Okay, so I just found a place that had been selling them (sold out now) for $275. Which, around here, is the same price as 11 mediocre lap dances (22 on buy one get one free night). And, honestly, which would feel better on your weary soles(!)? The prosecution rests.
